According to the latest reports from Vinos de Chile, Chilean wine exports to China grew by 17.3 percent by volume and 15.5 percent by revenue in the first quarter of 2021.

As Chilean wines biggest export market, China is the only export market among Chile’s top five which has shown expansion in sales during the period.

Between January and March, a total of USD 56.6 million worth of Chilean wines were shipped to China, equivalent to 1.6 million 9-liter cases.

In March alone, Chilean wine exports to China grew by an exponential 81.6 percent by volume and 113 percent by value.

“In the period accumulated until March, China advances in repositioning itself as our main destination after its decline in the first year of the pandemic,” said Vinos de Chile.

The next four major markets - Brazil, the United States, the United Kingdom and Japan – all showed negative growth.

In total, Chile exported USD 344 million in bottled wine in the quarter, representing a decline of 0.62 percent compared to last year.

By volume there was a decrease of 11.6 million 9-liter cases, which translated into a decrease of 5.81 percent.

China is firmly Chilean wines’ top export market during this period with USD 56.6 million worth of Chilean wines shipped.

Brazil comes in second having imported USD33 million worth of Chilean wines in the period, followed by USA, the UK and then Japan.
