Police in Pattaya of Thailand arrested 20 people at a local restaurant where alcohol was reportedly being sold.
Though COVID restrictions in Pattaya have recently been relaxed to allow restaurants to offer dine-in services again, alcohol sales and consumption at restaurants are still prohibited.
Pattaya local newspaper reported that Saewana restaurant was raided at around 11pm on Monday by officers from Pattaya and the Banglamung district station.
It was said that when police arrived at the restaurant, they found that alcohol was being served in glasses while the bottles were hidden.
Local newspaper said that all the 20 people present at the restaurant during the raid were arrested, including the owner.
They will face charges for allegedly violating the provincial disease control order and could face hefty fine or even imprisonment.
Thailand has imposed and relaxed alcohol ban in restaurants several times since the outbreak the pandemic. The latest ban was announced last month because of rising number of COVID cases in pockets of areas now classified as red zones.
