THAI CRAFT BREWERS TO HOLD "BIGGEST EVER" BEER EVENT IN MARCH

Thailand’s home-grown craft brewers will gather for the inaugural Beer People Festival on 11 to 12 March to showcase their niche products, the show is billed as Thailand’s “biggest craft beer event ever.”
Initially scheduled to be held in The Street Ratchada shopping mall, which has a central location near Thailand Cultural Centre, organisers said they are now looking for a new venue because the venue management had pulled out due to political reasons.
Organiser Prachachon Beer (Beer People) said they will announce a new venue by Monday.
More than 200 craft brewers from around Thailand will be showcasing their products in this inaugural event, among the 400 flavours of beers to be showcased are barrel-aged mango papaya salad, tom yum soup, coconut, coffee stout and more.
Apart from craft beer, visitors can also expect to taste over 30 locally made liquors such as Thai whisky, rice whisky and sato (Thai rice wine).
Many of these products are actually made in neighbouring countries because Thai laws effectively ban small scale brewers.
The festival is expected to both celebrate craft brewing and advocate for reforms against these laws.
Workshops on craft brewing as well as discussions on how the laws should be changed will run through the festival.
Among the speakers is owner of the Prumplum Umeshu Bar which served self-made Japanese plum wines. The owner was fined for breaching the Thai laws that only allow big producers to make alcoholic drinks.
