Hong Kong International Wine & Spirits Fair opens today at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre as the city’s government kicked start a publicity push to tell the world that Hong Kong is opened for business again.

Organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), the fair runs alongside the Asian Financial Forum in the same venue.

This is the first time for HKTDC to bring back physical tasting sessions in their events since the Covid-19 pandemic.

The two-day fair is only open to the trade, business matching meetings will be set up onsite between buyers and exhibitors.

HKTDC Deputy Executive Director Sophia Chong said: "For the first time since its launch in 2008, the Wine & Spirits Fair is held in January to kick off the wine industry event season in 2023, offering plenty of opportunities for buyers and exhibitors to give their business a boost in the new year.”

The fair features more than 100 local and international exhibitors, showcasing fine wine, liquor, baijiu, beer, sake and other alcoholic beverages from around the world, including Argentina, Australia, Mainland China, France, Hong Kong, Italy, Japan, Scotland and the United States.

Most of the exhibitors are Hong Kong-based importers or wine and spirits organisations, the most noticeable foreign exhibitors include the National Tax Agency of Japan and Fukuoka Prefectural Government.

Hong Kong has kept its strict Covid quarantine policy for much longer than its main competitors in Asia, the city has literally lost its status as the Asian hub for international trade shows when its border was shut.

The city’s government is keen to regain the lost ground, it kicked off 2023 with eight trade shows just in January including the International Wine & Spirits Fair and many more to come in the months ahead.
