The Chianti Wine Consortium completed a multi-country tour in Asia last month, having visited Japan, South Korea, Vietnam and Thailand.
Dubbed Chianti Lovers Asian Tour, the tour was Chianti Wine’s first official event in Thailand, which was organised on 22 June in Bangkok.
In Bangkok, 11 companies producing Chianti and 27 labels were present. Wine consumption in Thailand is expected to return to pre-Covid levels by 2024.
During the event, an introductory and comprehensive seminar on the appellation was conducted with technical tastings of Vintage, Superiore, and Riserva wines from 2016 to 2022 from the seven different DOCG production areas.
In Ho Chi Minh city, where the Consortium has held two events in the past, the event was held on 20 June featuring 12 companies and 30 labels.
The focus was on Chianti Superiore with a vertical tasting of several vintages.
Apart from masterclasses and walk-around tastings, the format also included workshops and intensive programs of B2B sessions.
The tastings were conducted by local experts including Tu Le Huy, President of the Saigon Sommelier Association, and Thai wine educator Sariya Kampanathsanyakorn, and coordinated by wine ambassador Luca Alves.
“These are two markets with great growth prospects,” said Giovanni Busi, President of the
Chianti Wine Consortium, “as well as great cultural and gastronomic heterogeneity.”
