FORMER CHIEF BLENDER OF SUNTORY STARTED ONLINE JAPANESE WHISKY COMMUNITY

Suntory's former whisky chief blender, Seiichi Koshimizu, has partnered with three other industry figures to set up an online whisky members club to allow connoisseurs from around the world to enjoy and share information on their most favourite tipple.
amed the Japanese Whisky Membership Community, which was launched late last year, costs ¥5,500 (USD40) for an annual membership.
This online community offers various media content featuring different figures in the Japanese whisky industry, including Japanese food writer Takeshi Kadokami, Micheline-starred chef Kenichi Hashimoto and bartender legend Minoru Nishida.
The community also plans to create limited merchandise and hosts exclusive events which are only available to members.
It also supports the sustainability of the Japanese whisky industry by donating a portion of the membership fees to organisations which actively plant "Mizunara" trees, and thus its members directly contribute to the Japanese whisky industry.
Koshimizu himself started his career in Suntory’s research department in 1976, before moving to Yamazaki Distillery in 1985 and becoming a blender in 1991. He was named chief blender in 1999, before being awarded the title of chief blender Emeritus in 2014.
Under his watch, creations including Hibiki 30YO and Yamazaki 12 YO have won countless trophies, with the latter becoming one of the world’s most sought-after and whiskies.
Koshimizu was inducted into the Whisky Magazine Hall of Fame in 2015, he is the first Japanese recipient of the honour.
