THE MACALLAN RELEASED 344 DECANTERS OF 1949 WHISKY TO MARK 200th ANNIVERSARY

Leading Scotch brand The Macallan has released Tales of The Macallan Volume II to mark the distillery’s 200th anniversary this year.
The release pays homage to Macallan’s founder, Alexander Reid, and shows his journey from being a teacher, farmer and distiller some 200 years ago.
A limited edition of 344 decanters of Tales of The Macallan Volume II has been released with a price tag of £77,391 (USD98,286) and is available at The Macallan Estate, The Macallan Boutiques and premium off-trade retailers.
Encased in a bespoke crystal decanter handcrafted by master French crystal maker Laliqu, the single malt was distilled in 1949 and bottled in 2022 and was crafted by Macallan’s lead whisky maker Euan Kennedy.

The decanter is secreted within an impressive 852-page book etched with beautiful illustrations depicting Reid’s journey by British artist Andrew Davidson.
Printed by Imprimerie du Marais, the book is handsewn and bound by Shepherds, Sangorski & Sutcliffe and Zaehnsdorf in London.

A short film has also been made featuring a selection of Davidson’s illustrations and is set to an original piece of music composed by acclaimed Scottish folk music composer Craig Armstrong.
COLOUR: Bronzed oak
NOSE: Rich forest fruits, sweet aromatic woodsmoke, antique oak, nutmeg, cinnamon, vanilla pods, herbal and leafy notes, treacle toffee.
PALATE: Black cherries, plum jam, dark chocolate orange, almond and custard pastry, ginger sponge with hints of cloves, sweet woodsmoke and hints of loose tea leaves.
FINISH: Long & complex, with a sweet, lingering smokiness.
ABV: 44.8%
