Legendary London restaurant Le Gavroche, which ceased operation last month, will auction out its wine collection and memorabilia in an online auction by Christie's from 10 to 24 April.

More than 100 lots from the two-Michelin-star restaurant will be put under the hammer, including fine wines, pictures, silverwares, porcelain and decorative objects.

The wine cellar auction will feature top Burgundy, Bordeaux and Rhône wines, alongside vintage Champagne and Port.

Burgundy lots include Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Romanée-Conti Grand Cru 2013 (estimate £9,000 – £12,000 per bottle); Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé, Vieilles Vignes, Musigny Grand Cru 2010 (estimate £500 – 600 per bottle); Domaine Bonneau du Martray, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru 2017 (estimate £500 – £600 per magnum).

Lots from other regions include Salon Le Mesnil Champagne, Chateau Latour, Angélus, Le Pin and Lafleur from Bordeaux, Domine JL Chave from Rhône, and Port house Quinta do Noval.

The sale will also include artworks and other special items from the restaurant which has long been considered a fine dining institution in the UK.

Le Gavroche opened for the last time to serve its guests on 13 January, after 57 years of service in London’s Mayfair.

The restaurant was co-founded in 1967 by the Roux brothers Albert and Michel, both had earned an OBE for their culinary contribution to the UK.

Renowned chefs Gordon Ramsay, Marcus Wareing, Pierre Koffmann and Marco Pierre White have all been trained in Le Gavroche. The restaurant had been run by Albert’s son and celebrity chef Michel Roux Jr since 1989.

“We have many wines from 1967: [from] Chateau Angélus in magnums to five-litre Chateau Latour, direct from the Chateaux, all in wonderful condition,” Roux Jr told Decanter magazine.

“The memorabilia is such an integral part of Le Gavroche, none more so than the sign above the door. It’s all personal and part of not only my life but of the gastronomic revolution of the UK,” he added.

Tim Triptree, Christie’s international director of wine, said: “Since 1967 Le Gavroche has built an envied reputation as one of the world’s finest dining restaurants, as well as for its exceptional and extensive wine list. We’re delighted to be offering a selection from their cellar.”
