Tokyo restaurant Sézanne, which serves neo-French cuisine featuring Japan’s top-quality ingredients, was named Asia’s best restaurant in Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants Awards 2024 held in Seoul last night.

Another Tokyo restaurant that serves French-inspired cuisine, Floriege, rose five places from last year to score the number two spot on the list.

Bangkok’s Gaggan Annand, run by Kolkata-born chef of the same name, was ranked number three this year, climbing two spots.

Rounding out the top five were two restaurants in Hong Kong. Coming in at fourth was The Chairman, which was voted No. 1 in 2021, and Wing, which had the most dramatic rise of the night, moving up an impressive 32 spots from last year to grab fifth place.

Though Singapore does not have any restaurants in the top five, nine of its venues made the top 50 list – more than any other city.

Among them is newcomer Seroja at No.31, which was the highest new entry of the night.

Bangkok has eight restaurants on the 2024 list. In addition to Gaggan Anand at number three, Nusara by chef Thitid “Ton” Tassanakajohn earned the No.6 spot, followed by Sühring at 7th place7 having climbed 15 spots.

Last year’s number one Le Du, also run by chef Ton of Bangkok, fell to No.12 this year.

The list is compiled by the Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants Academy, which is made up of more than 300 food critics, writers, chefs and restaurateurs, all selected for their knowledge of Asia’s restaurant scene.
