This year’s edition of ProWine Tokyo, Japan’s premier international wine and spirits trade exhibition, concluded its three-day run on 17 April at Tokyo Big Sight, drawing around 5,500 professional trade visitors and 190 exhibitors from 23 countries and regions.

Organised by Messe Düsseldorf Japan, the 2026 edition expanded its global footprint with first-time national pavilions from Romania, Uruguay, Greece and the US South, joining established exhibitor groups from major wine-producing regions including France, Germany, Italy, Spain and South Africa.

The event catered exclusively to industry professionals, from importers and distributors to sommeliers and retail buyers across Japan and Asia-Pacific markets.

This year’s fair placed a sharp focus on prevailing Japanese market trends, with dedicated zones spotlighting Provence rosé, low-and non-alcoholic beverages, and premium craft spirits led by high-demand Japanese whisky.

A curated showcase of domestic Japanese wineries, featuring producers from Yamanashi, Nagano and Hokkaido, also highlighted the growth of local viticulture alongside imported premium labels.

A full program of industry seminars and masterclasses centred on market premiumisation, sustainable production practices, and distribution strategies in Japan’s sophisticated, quality-driven beverage market.

Sessions exploring the integration of Japanese sake and whisky into international wine and spirits portfolios drew strong attendance from global trade attendees.

Event organisers noted consistent demand for high-end, artisanal and sustainably produced wines and spirits among Japanese buyers, with premiumisation remaining the dominant market driver.

ProWine Tokyo 2026 marked steady growth in both exhibitor diversity and business networking opportunities, reinforcing its position as the critical gateway for international producers targeting Japan’s mature, discerning beverage market.
