China’s Ningxia wine region will host the 47th OIV World Congress of Vine and Wine in October this year, marking the first time ever for the annual congress to take place in Asia.

Scheduled for 12 to 16 October in the city of Yinchuan, the five-day official gathering will run alongside the 24th OIV General Assembly, bringing together industry officials, viticulture scientists, winemakers and trade representatives from more than 50 member states.

Co-hosted by the International Organisation of Vine and Wine and Ningxia local authorities, the event establishes Ningxia’s position as Asia’s new core fine-wine hub.

The landmark congress follows China’s official OIV membership in 2024. Ningxia’s Helan Mountain East Foot terroir has emerged as China’s most awarded wine-producing region, securing one Platinum, five Gold and 104 total medals at the 2026 Decanter World Wine Awards.

This year’s conference centres on modern industry transformation, with a core theme focused on innovation, sustainability and market adaptation for global wine production.

Technical sessions will cover climate-resilient viticulture, low-carbon winemaking technologies, international trade regulations, as well as safety and health standards.

The programme includes academic forums, industry masterclasses, cross-border trade matching events and on-site vineyard inspections of Ningxia’s signature mountain vineyards, offering global delegates direct insight into the region’s unique desert terroir and production systems.

Running concurrently with the OIV Congress is the 6th China (Ningxia) International Wine Culture and Tourism Expo, expanding the event’s reach to commercial exhibitors, global distributors and wine tourism operators.

Industry observers say the October summit will bridge traditional Old World wine markets and fast-growing Asian consumer bases, unifying global standards for viticulture and sustainable production.

These events will further strengthen Ningxia’s role as the benchmark for premium wine production in China, while opening new export pathways for domestic wine brands.

Global participant registration is now open, with streamlined entry and hospitality arrangements in place for international delegates ahead of the autumn industry flagship event.
