China’s inaugural Low-Alcohol Wine Forum is set to open in Chengdu this Sunday, serving as a pivotal launchpad for the country’s fast-evolving low-alcohol market amid a nationwide shift toward healthier drinking habits.
To be held alongside the 114th China Sprint Sugar & Liquor Fair—an industry bellwether—the forum will centre on the theme “Competing in the Low-Alcohol Era” at Chengdu Kempinski Hotel.
Its core agenda includes the highly anticipated release of the 2026 China Low-Alcohol Wine Market White Paper, the first comprehensive industry report forecasting five-year growth trajectories and analysing consumer dynamics, brand strategies, and channel innovations.
Industry insiders reveal the white paper will highlight robust expansion for low-alcohol wines (0.5%–10% ABV), driven by Gen Z’s “micro-intoxication” culture, female consumers, and health-conscious middle-aged buyers.
Market projections point to surging penetration in first-tier cities and rapid growth in lower-tier markets, with e-commerce livestreaming and cross-border platforms alongside offline F&B chains emerging as key growth drivers.
Global industry leaders—including Brown Brothers, Dr. Loosen, and Peter Mertes—will headline the event, sharing insights on alcohol-reduction brewing techniques, flavour consistency, and China-focused marketing layouts.
Attendees will also participate in a curated tasting session showcasing domestic and international low-alcohol wine varieties, underscoring the category’s evolving diversity and quality standards.
Beyond market analysis, the forum aims to standardise industry practices through dialogue on product labelling, quality control, and cross-stakeholder collaboration.
As Chengdu cements its status as a hub for alcoholic beverage innovation and Qionglai establishes itself as China’s first dedicated low-alcohol drink production zone, insiders predict the low-alcohol segment will transition from a niche offering to a mainstream force—reshaping China’s overall wine consumption landscape in the coming year.
