Kweichow Moutai’s rare Blue Moutai label has returned to the market after a seven-year production suspension, rekindling demand among premium baijiu collectors in Asia.
Its revival was officially announced at a recent event hosted by the Hong Kong Friends of Moutai Club.
First launched in 2015 and discontinued in 2019, the distinctive deep-ocean blue bottling gained cult status among connoisseurs for its limited availability and classic sauce-aroma character.
Its revival was officially announced at a recent event hosted by the Hong Kong Moutai Club.
While full public pricing remains unannounced, industry sources indicate the revived 2026 edition is targeted at around HKD6,000 (USD767) per 500ml bottle, available exclusively to club members through allocated quotas.
Existing pre-2019 vintage Blue Moutai continues to trade strongly in Hong Kong and mainland secondary markets, with sealed original bottles fetching HKD5,500 to HKD7,200.
Earlier gem-blue editions from 2015–2016 carry a slight premium, with auction lots regularly realising HKD5,800 to HKD6,500 depending on year and condition.
Restricted distribution and limited volume are expected to support pricing and scarcity value in the short term.
The relaunch coincides with steady demand for limited-edition Moutai in Hong Kong and southern China, supported by favourable tax structures and sustained interest in Chinese luxury spirits as cultural and investment assets.
A portion of auction proceeds from the launch event will be donated to the Share Foundation to support medical aid programs across Belt and Road countries, combining luxury spirits culture with charitable initiatives.
