A set of seminars focused on addressing fraud in the fine wine and whisky sectors is scheduled to be held in Singapore from 14 to 16 March.

Organised by Chai Consulting, the sessions will be spearheaded by Maureen Downey, a globally acclaimed wine authentication specialist, together with Siobhan Turner MW and spirits expert Isabel Graham-Yooll.

Their combined expertise will offer attendees actionable insights into the complex issue of fraud in premium alcohol markets.

The seminars will focus on how fraud has evolved into a critical problem in the global market for rare wine and high-end spirits—whisky in particular.

Tailored for fine wine and spirits professionals, as well as collectors seeking to protect the authenticity of their investments, the program will cover key topics such as theft, black market transactions, adulteration, investment scams, and the tactics employed by counterfeiters.

The wine-focused segment on the first day will kick off with an overview of the global wine fraud landscape, followed by an introduction to core authentication methods.

Participants will then engage in interactive workshops that explore bottle inspection techniques and condition assessment, with attendees invited to bring their own bottles for professional analysis.

The second day will feature a full day of advanced authentication training, giving participants the opportunity to practice identifying signs of tampering and counterfeit production through practical exercises.

This hands-on approach is designed to equip attendees with actionable skills they can apply immediately.

The final day of the event will shift focus to fraud in the spirits market, with a specific emphasis on whisky.

Sessions will explore authentication methods unique to spirits, complemented by real-world case studies and practical activities aimed at helping participants recognise red flags of counterfeiting.

Organisers note that the skills taught during the seminars are rooted in over 25 years of authentication experience. These proven techniques have helped clients avoid millions of dollars in losses and protected sellers from reputational harm.
