Chile is South Korea’s top source of imported wines by volume in 2019, followed by Spain and France , according to trade data quoted by Korea Bizwire. By value, however, France tops the list followed by Chile and USA.
In 2019, South Korea imported 11,272 tons of wines from Chile, 5,406 tons from Spain, 5,013 tons from France, 4,534 tons from Italy, 2,956 tons from USA and 2,102 tons from Australia.
Wine consumption from South Korea continued to grow rapidly in recent years. Total consumption in 2019 was 43,495 tons, representing a 67 percent growth compared to consumption in 2011 at 26,004 tons.
Korea Bizwire quoted industry sources as saying that Chilean and French wines are the most popular imported wines among South Korean consumers.
Though ranked third by volume of wine exported to South Korea, France tops the list by value because of the much high price points of its exports.
Chile came second by value, followed by USA, Italy, Spain and then Australia.
