In view of the uncertainties concerning the COVID-19 pandemic, the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) announced yesterday that this year’s Hong Kong Wine & Dine Festival will happen online.
The HKTB said it is building an online hub where most of the Festival’s programmes will take place.
There will be an online market place where wine merchants can present their wines to participants. Meanwhile, renowned wine and food critics, chefs and wine experts will be invited to speak on wine-pairing and culinary topics in virtual workshops and classes.
Originally scheduled to take place from 29 October to 1 November this year on the Central Harbour Front, the new online event will be extended to several weeks to allow more people to participate from around the world.
HKTB Chairman Dr YK Pang said: Despite the COVID-19 outbreak this year, we hope people can continue to enjoy Hong Kong’s unique dining culture while providing business opportunities for the local F&B sector amidst this challenging economic climate. Organising the Festival virtually allows us to achieve both objectives without compromising public health and safety.”
The Hong Kong Wine & Dine Festival was launched in 2009, it has since become one of the most popular events among local residents and tourists.
This is not the first time the event is being disrupted in its 11-year history, the 2019 event was cancelled when Hong Kong was mired in social unrest last year.
